Henry Barber Presents: Cathedral Ledge Mecca

Henry Barber Presents: Cathedral Ledge Mecca

Join the Access Fund and White Mountain Trail Collective for an evening with Henry Barber as he presents, "Cathedral Ledge - Mecca, How a great four season crag influenced generations of climbers". Dive in with Henry as he explores the climbing history of Cathedral Ledge from the climbers and places that influenced it, to the significant ways that Cathedral influenced generations of climbers. After cutting his teeth with the Appalachian Mountain Club around Boston and later Cathedral Ledge, “Hot Henry” traveled the globe visiting nearly every emerging and established climbing area in the 1970’s. Along the way the places that Henry climbed influenced the development of his climbing style and ethics that are as iconic as his white painter pants and golf cap from that era. The evening will be a rare opportunity to explore the climbing history of Cathedral Ledge through the eyes of an early free climbing pioneer.

In addition to the evening presentation there will be a silent auction to benefit 2020 stewardship efforts focused on trails used to access some of Cathedral Ledge’s most well traveled classics, including Thin Air, The Saigons, and Toe Crack. Several pieces will be available for bidding including a framed photo of Henry’s famed first free ascent of Recluse with the story of the ascent written by Henry on the back, as well as a piton placed during the ascent to round out the item.
